Ernest has been in practice since December 1995 and focuses exclusively on divorce and family law matters. From 1996 to 2000 he also had a criminal defense practice, primarily dealing with misdemeanor cases but also with some complex felony matters. He is a member of the State Bar of California (license number 178099); the Santa Clara County Bar Association; and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has also been admitted to the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He received his Bachelor of Arts in English, with Great Distinction (highest honors) from San Jose State University in 1991 and was awarded a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995. Ernest also actively participates in, attends, and reviews courses, seminars, meetings, literature, and practice material in continuing legal education that are related to family law to keep abreast of the latest developments.

After serving in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1983, Ernest worked at various title companies in the San Jose area before commencing full-time study in early 1988. He is extremely fond of travel and has lived in Germany, Mexico, and South Korea and has traveled to many other countries and all around the United States and Canada. In his free time he stays active by running and lifting weights, hiking, travel, cooking, dining out, and he enjoys spending time at home with his family and two spoiled cats, one of which was rescued in South Korea when he was only a week old.
